The Leading of the Holy Spirit (A.W. Pink)

Overview:           1). Divinely Drawn 2). Divine Direction 3.) A Caution  4.) Active Guidance 5). How to know we are being led by the Spirit

Divinely Drawn

How the Holy Spirit leads us is a very important concept to understand.  We must first learn how it is that we are led by the Spirit of God, before we can begin to effectively follow the Spirit’s leading.  Being led by the Spirit is like a scholar is led by his tutor, as a traveler in his journey is led by his guide, as a soldier in war is led by his captain. But this is only the external analogies. What are the internal operations of the Spirit?

 Let the Scriptures Speak

Jeremiah 10:23- “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

Ezekiel 36:27- “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”

Philippians 2:12-13- “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

 Summary

To be “led by the Spirit of God” is to be governed by Him from within, to be subject unto His impulses and strivings. He reduces our rebellious hearts and molds them to the obedience of His will by His Word and His Spirit.

A.W. Pink said: “Thus we are "led by the Spirit" both actively and passively: actively, with respect to His prompting; passively on our part, as we submit to those promptings; actively, by His pressing upon us the holy requirements of the Scriptures; passively, as we yield ourselves unto those requirements. The Spirit is our Guide, but we must obey His motions.”
