"Lie detection, also referred to as deception detection, uses questioning techniques along with technology that records physiological functions to ascertain truth and falsehood in response. The traditional lie detector test, or polygraph, is widely considered unreliable. It detects autonomic reactions.[2] These changes in body functions are not easily controlled by the conscious mind and include bodily reactions like skin conductivity and heart rate.[5] They also may consider respiration rate, relative blood pressure, capillary dilation, and muscular movement. These measures are supposed to indicate a short-term stress response which can be from lying or significance to the subject.

All that to say that as followers of Christ, we know who the ultimate lie detector is: Jesus himself! God can be the only accurate lie detector and that should cause us to have a healthy fear/reverence for Him!
Consider what Hebrews 4:13 says: " Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." Every lie and secret thought is uncovered by God and we are accountable to Him for every one!
Proverbs 19:5- "A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape."
The Lord takes lying very seriously! In the book of Acts a man and his wife were struck dead for lying to God:
"But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things."(Acts 5:1-5)
We see that the consequences of lying or sin is death! We know that we are all accountable to the Ultimate Judge and lie detector, after our earthly lives are over: "And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." (Heb. 9:27)
The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom! May we all gain wisdom by knowing that no lie we tell can go unchecked! We may feel we are getting ahead by telling lies for a season. But God sees it all and we must give an account to Him in that last day!
Jesus Christ has done something that no polygraph machine can do! He convicts our hearts of sin and mercifully shows us our own depravity! He allows us to see that we are guilty of lying and have broke His commands. Jesus has come to pay the penalty on the cross for our lying lips! He died for those sins and rose again to conquer death which was the penalty for our sins!
We can be cleansed from our lying lips by repenting of our lying and trusting in Jesus alone to save us and gain true forgiveness! We will be acquitted and promised eternal life, escaping the judgement of hell that our sins deserve! Trust in Christ today!
